Amandla Publishing

Amandla Publishing began in 2001 to provide writers whose work would not easily find a venue.  Its name, a Zulu word for power, underlines its commitment to works that make a difference with a difference.  Venceremos is the Spanish equivalent.  We shall overcome.

“The writer, consciously or unconsciously, willingly or unwillingly,” Walter Benjamin writes, “works in the service of a class and receives his mandate from that class.”   Amandla was a refrain in the 1985 Sun City album of Artists United Against Apartheid, an album in protest of the refusal of the Sun City concert site to let black musicians perform.  Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Ruben Blades, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Bonnie Raitt, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Jimmy Cliff, Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar, Run DMC, Big Youth and others took part.
